Yesterday evening the Fly FM crew made their way to the O2 Arena, London, for the prestigious Student Radio Awards 2009.

The intrepid girls and guys from Fly joined a flock of student radio stations from all corners of the nation. BBC Radio 1 DJs, Fearne Cotton and Greg James, hosted the awards show. Of the 14 awards, Fly FM was nominated in four categories.

Fly’s weekday presenter and technical wiz, Martyn Littlewood, took top honours for Best Newcomer (gold).

Hannah Lupton had been nominated for Best Female Presenter, but lost out to RaW’s Julie Ann Lough (gold), GU2’s Josie Standbrook (silver) and Roundhouse Radio’s Kate Lamble (bronze).

However, Sam Jarrett walked away with the silver for Best Male Presenter.

Fly FM was also up for the big one, Best Student Radio Station, and won second place.

Overall winners were LSRfm.com, from Leeds University. URN, the student station for the University of Nottingham, took third place. See the full list of award winners here.

Finally, Fly FM was officially announced as the hosts for the upcoming Student Radio Conference. In addition to the trio of industry awards, Trent’s radio heroes also took home wine and DAB radios for their efforts.

Five awards last year and another three this year, Fly FM continues to make its mark in student radio history.
