Resident Evil 5 Launch

Resident Evil 5 Launch

Surprisingly, not that many residents were getting their evil on in the early hours of this morning

It’s Friday 13 for the second time this year and that of course means only one thing.  No, it’s not the release of yet another terrible superstitious horror movie cash-in. Resident Evil 5, Capcom’s bodily acclaimed zombie series, has reach our shores after four years of (im)patient waiting.

Late last night, Stuart Kent and I made our way across town to Victoria Centre’s GAME store to see if any undead had risen on this infectious occasion. In spite of the hungry public’s anticipation for Resident Evil 5, when we arrived on the scene the mood was sadly muted. Only a handful of dedicated gamers had braved the trip to launch event. If it wasn’t the zombies that put everyone else off maybe it was the launch date? Come to think of it, Victoria Shopping Centre was eerily quiet that night and we couldn’t help but conjure images of Capcom’s other brain-feeder, Dead Rising, in our minds.

Luckily for those that did make it inside the bizarre quarantine area that was Victoria Centre’s GAME, the staff was suitably dressed to serve them copies of the game (and possibly eat their brains too). While we were unable to get an official comment on the retailer’s expectations for the game, store manager Shaun Widdowson and his staff expressed their commitment to the series by dressing up for this release.

While I’m sure it would have been nice to have a bit more hysteria surrounding the local midnight launch, everyone who did come out seemed stoked to finally have gotten their hands on the game. The real highlight though could only be the fact that the shop attendants were dressed as zombies.
