Nottingham Trent women’s rugby season has got off to a flying start after winning three games on the trot without conceding any tries.
The best of the lot was an 83-nil thrashing against Lincoln.
The following game – against De Montfort – boosted the girl’s egos as the Leicester-based uni was forced to admit defeat after just 50-minues when they went down by 44 points.
Game, set, match Trent.
Captain Lucy Lobley and vice Charlotte Brooks have welcomed experienced trainers Stuart Bell and Ken James to the squad.
The two veteran coaches have both coached at the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire Rugby Football Union.
The side was also blessed with new talent in the shape of fresher’s Heather Foxen, Laura Hollinshead, Thato Christinah Pheto and Rosie Blackmore who have really stood out from the rest.
The new student players have been encouraged by East Midland stars Fran Eggleshaw and Nikki Hudson, both experts at tackles, handoffs and quick-runs.
The squad has improved dramatically from last season after welcoming back Hannah Dennison White from an injury.
After being sidelined for most of last year she is now back fighting fit and impressing the other players with her spectacular talent.
Scrum-half Samantha Kirk and number ten Michaela Kerrigan have stepped-up their efforts in training to ensure their tackles and kicking is better than ever.
However there have been some changes this year.
Former prop Emma Hall has moved to second row while Jessica Irvine – once an outside centre – has moved to fullback.
Meanwhile the rest of the backline have come a long way since last year.
After intense training they are now more experienced and are stronger both in defence and in attack.
