BAFTA Video Game Awards 2010

Uncharted 2 nabs four BAFTAs, Arkham Asylum picks up Best Game and Shigeru Miyamoto joins the Academy Fellowship at annual video game awards

Batman: Arkham Asylum took Best Game and Gameplay at the annual BAFTA Video Games Awards, held yesterday evening at the London Hilton, Park Lane, and hosted by comedian Dara Ó Briain. The game, created by Rocksteady Studios, was nominated for eight awards and has received much praise from the press.

Hot on Arkham Asylum’s heels was Uncharted 2. It was up for 10 awards and won four, including Original Score, Story and Action. The publisher behind Uncharted 2, Sony Computer Entertainment, also picked up awards for Artistic Achievement and Handheld for its titles, Flower and LittleBigPlanet (PSP).

This year the Game Award of 2009, which is voted for by the public, went to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Other award-winners include Left 4 Dead 2 for Multiplayer (which was also won by the game’s previous title), FIFA 10 for Sport and Wii Sports Resort for Family & Social.

The Academy Fellowship, the highest accolade presented by BAFTA, was awarded to Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario, Zelda and the driving force behind much of Nintendo’s unique game design culture for over 20 years. He joins Nolan Bushnell and Will Wright who have also been recognised.
