On Yer Bike!

On Yer Bike!

Cycling - a great idea in practice but let’s face it, after a heavy night on the town, just the prospect of making it into the kitchen for a morning cup of tea seems daunting enough.

We’ve all seen the cyclists around campus, zipping from A to B like aluminium bats out of hell, navigating through the traffic which is moving at a snail’s pace that the rest of us are unfortunate enough to be stuck in.

So ‘why not?’ is the question being put forward by Sustrans’ Project Manager, Joanna Ward: “The cycle to work or university days have been organised to give staff and students an opportunity to make a difference to their overall fitness levels, whether they are new to cycling or have been pedalling for years.”

Sustainable transport charity, Sustrans, will be visiting our very own City site on the 25 March as part of a scheme to get Trent students on their bikes and ditching the morning bus.

Free breakfasts will be provided on a first come basis and there will also be free gifts and a complimentary bicycle repair service available to students.

This MOT on your bike and body is being pushed forward with the aid of the University of Nottingham and Nottingham City Council, as well as trusts like Cycling England and The Big Wheel.

The event will be held on Thursday, 25 March, 8am to 10:30am, outside Chaucer lock up.

With National Bike Week approaching on 19-27 June, now looks as good a time as any to leave the beer gut at home and arrive at uni, a little sweaty perhaps but feeling all the better for it.

You can find more information about Cycle to University Days on the Sustrans’ website.
