Having already topped the BBC Sound of 2010 and won the Critics’ Choice Award at the Brits, you definitely wouldn’t be forgiven for not knowing who Ellie Goulding is. KIMBERLY NEVE answers whether her debut album is worth the hype.

Ellie Goulding – Lights
Released: 08/03/2010
Label: Polydor
Somehow capturing a refreshing take on the female solo artist, Goulding introduces the album with ‘Guns and Horses’, it’s bound to be a next single, the beautiful, melodic and somewhat simple introduction to an extraordinary collection of songs. Including the singles ‘Under the Sheets’ and ‘Starry Eyed’, which have gone on to be smash hits, her voice is a marvel, so passionate.
The lyrics are not overlooked either… “Why don’t you be the artist: and make me out of clay? why don’t you be the writer and decide the words I say?” Goulding has got a talent for conjuring up the simplest words and creating something amazing, the outcome? I am officially lost for words over this debut performance; I haven’t said that since Florence and the Machine and look where she is now.
