Want to be part of next year’s Platform team?

UPDATE: Most of the positions have now been filled, but we’re still looking for a News Editor and a Student Welfare Editor – click here for more info and how to apply.

Calling all wannabe editors… The time is now upon us to find those bright sparks amongst all you Trent-ers who will form the Platform Committee (a.k.a. the editorial team) for the 2010/11 academic year.

We’re looking for talented, hard-working NTU students with excellent editorial skills (i.e. directing a section of the magazine and website, leading a team of contributors, spelling, grammar, punctuation, keeping contributors in line, sticking to the copy deadline, etc.) who have the commitment and enthusiasm to take Platform forward into another successful year.

There are 14 editorial positions in total up for grabs, including News, CommunityMusic, Film, Pictures, Online, Arts, Fashion, Food & Drink, TravelGaming & Technology, Health, Sports, and of course that all important second-in-command role, Deputy Editor.

So whether you have a passion for student fashion, insight into the latest musical craze sweeping the nation’s unis, love for a good  ol’ cheesy film, genuine concern for the welfare of your fellow students, or can keep abreast of current affairs pertinent to Trent, there’s a position on the committee for you.

Please note that these positions demand responsibility for heading a team of writers to report on the relevant area – editors are not encouraged to write every article in their section, so please don’t apply if you are unwilling to recruit student contributors.

Also keep in mind that while you will be required to submit articles for the website and each issue of the magazine reporting on your subject area, the Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to change the structure of the magazine and website at any time, and may group areas together as they see fit to best relate Platform to a student audience.

How to apply:

Click the links below to download an application pack for the position(s)* for which you would like to apply. Please read all documents included in the pack, then return your completed Application Form and NTSU Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form either by email to stephanie.combs@su.ntu.ac.uk , or by dropping off a printed copy at the Platform Office (1st floor, Byron House, City Campus) no later than 5pm on Wednesday 2nd June 2010 12pm on Friday 4th June 2010.

[Links removed as application deadline has passed.]

* While you may apply for more than one editorial position if you have a genuine interest in more than one area, it is unlikely that, if successful, you will be given more than one position on the team due to the time commitment that is required of each role.

There is no motoring section! :p how can I be the new clarkson without one?! :p on a serious note, what if I want to be a contributor? An article writer, just not an editor? How do I apply for that?

Sorry Ian, but to be fair, considering there’s the one-way system and the tram line diverting traffic away from the city campus, plus the existence of the car park that is the A453 going to/from Clifton, perhaps a ‘pedestrian’ section would be more apt for Trent students?

As for your question about applying to be a contributor – as soon as we have next year’s committee confirmed, we’ll be releasing details here on the website of how to sign up to be a contributor next year. So make sure to check back in a week or so.

I’m sure Motoring can come under Sports.
