A Princely Memory

A Princely Memory

David Walker, NTSU president and presenter of SuperFly, shares his memory of the Persian prince that captured his imagination when he was young.

One of my earliest memories of computer games is playing Prince of Persia 2 on the PC, and a very primitive PC at that.

I remember having to jump over spike pits and lava rivers, swashbuckle skeletons with my scabbard, whilst furiously bashing the spacebar.

In hindsight the graphics were basic, it could have been completed in an afternoon and the soundtrack was horrific! However, at the time as a nine-year-old boy, excited to go round his mate’s house and play on the computer that I didn’t have, it was one of the greatest things I’d ever seen.

I have a feeling that after watching the new film adaption, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, that I definitely won’t be describing it as the greatest thing I’ve ever seen, but if my inner nine-year-old can defeat the cynical 24-year-old I have become then who knows…
