Change is Good

Having launched less than eight months ago we have been tremendously pleased with the response to Platform Online.

In such as short space of time we have managed to establish and maintain a website, covering everything from local news to entertainment and leisure, on a weekly basis. It has also been instrumental in keeping our magazine issues alive, following the Students Union’s decision to cut the rest of the year’s print run.

Although we can still improve to achieve our vision of what Platform Online could be for Trent, we are extremely pleased with what we have accomplished and the many positive comments that have been received throughout the year. Thank you.

Now that the year is over, you can still find all of our material in the relevant sections. The Film, Arts and Fashion sections have been updated with all of this year’s magazine content, and other sections may follow – provided we can get hold of the necessary section editors.

This summer some of the remaining 2009-10 team members and I will still be updating the site with regular content and news updates. Expect the News, Music, Film, Gaming and Arts sections to be brimming with new content long into the hot summer months.

In preparation for next year, changes are on the horizon to improve the site and we’d very much like to hear what you would like to read here on Platform Online. More frequent coverage of local events and services? More articles about work experience and volunteering opportunities? Are our entertainment and leisure sections providing interesting content? What could we be doing better?

And don’t forget we’re still in need of contributors (no experience necessary), so please get in touch with us. More specifically, we’re in need of some keen health, travel and food writers and anyone who enjoys getting involved with local events. I’d also like a couple of enthusiastic souls to help re-launch our technology section. If you’re interested, give me a buzz.

If you’ve not already done so, join our Facebook and Twitter pages to say up to date. And let us know what you want us to cover this summer and for the next academic year at platform@su.ntu.ac.uk.

Enjoy your summer.
