World famous artists and designers are to be involved with several custom built spaces of the GameCity 5 festival.
Revealed last Friday at the G5 Summit, contributors include, Sarah McIntyre, Mark Wigan, Tom Brown & Dan Gray, Barbara Lippe, Rex Crowle and Keita Takahashi. Other talents could be added to the line-up in time for the festival in late October.
As part of the newly announced OpenGameCity platform, these artists will each be given a lounge space in Nottingham city to be decorated by them. Some of these lounge spaces, which are to resemble comfy living rooms, will be in the main tent that is again to be constructed in Market Square.
Festival director, Iain Simons, admitted that installing four considerably complex builds inside the tent last year was too strenuous and something they won’t be repeating this year. The festival is also partnering with the NHS primary care trust (PCT) for a year-long health club project.
Along with ideas direct from the public, the festival will also exhibit a look at Lego Universe, video game stand-up comedy courtesy of One Life Left, and a new game from Canabalt creator, Adam Atomic.
“[With OpenGameCity,] we want to create a bit more dialogue between games and everything else in the world,” said Simons.
GameCity 5 takes place in Nottingham on Oct 26-30, 2010.
