Where to start with Knight and Day? It’s Tom Cruise kicking ass and taking names in an action thriller, starring across from one of the most beautiful women on the planet. It was always going to be a winner!
June Havens (Diaz) is living life day to day. Divorced, mourning her dead father, and desperate to get home as she is preparing to walk her sister down the aisle. She meets Roy Miller (Cruise) at the airport after accidentally bumping into him several times. She falls for his dashing good looks instantly, and even kisses him midflight. But while shes in the toilet, he kills everyone on board, and then reveals he’s a secret agent and he’s on the run from the government.
It’s a race against time to get June to the altar, and clear Roy’s name after he’s framed by his partner Fitzgerald (played by Peter Saarsgard), who has convinced the CIA that Roy has gone rogue in an attempt to take them off of his own tail.
It’s not the most original premise, but it has just enough twists and turns to stay interesting, and this highly comedic movie will make for great weekend viewing.
The amount of publicity this film has had, you’d think it featured two nobodies and was at a risk of not recouping its budget. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz have been doing the television rounds, with Tom turning up on The One Show, while both roared around the Top Gear test track last week – Cameron breaking the all-time lap record for the celebrity laps, only for Tom to then beat her moments later.
Why there would be any expectation of this one not doing well though is beyond me. This has been one of the movies I’ve been waiting for all summer – and it didn’t disappoint.
With just the right mixture of car chases and shoot outs and actually story, this is a well balanced thrill ride which will have you on the edge of your seats one minute and laughing in the aisles the next.
