Award-winning radio hosts bring a night of video game-themed stand-up comedy to Nottingham at GameCity 5.
The team behind the award-winning radio show One Life Left, Ste Curran, Simon Byron and Ann Scantlebury, will host a stand-up comedy night devoted to interactive entertainment. The cheeky trio will be introducing headline acts and taking to the stage themselves for their own stand-up routines.
The comedy night will take place at Just the Tonic – inside Nottingham’s Corner House club, Forum – on Wednesday, October 27.
Three of the UK’s best new comedians will be present: Graham Goring (Best Show, Manchester Comedy Festival 2009) and Leicester Mercury nominee Chris Stokes (Pleasance Comedy Reserve 2009) performing their hit routine, Nerds of a Feather; and Wil Hodgson (2004 Perrier Award, Best Newcomer, Edinburgh Festival Fringe).
“We’ve had some pretty stupid ideas before,” said Simon Byron, co-presenter, One Life Left, “but we may have gone a little too far with this one. We’re all – genuinely – terrified. Honestly, whenever I think of the night, my wrists start sweating. Ste has been in tears. And Ann feels sick, but that may be the early stages of pregnancy. Who can tell? It was quite a night.”
“Fortunately we’ve enlisted the help of some actual top comedians, so there will be some actual, genuine laughs on the night. But the opportunity to watch three idiots with no jokes between them literally die on stage as part of the world’s first ever video game stand-up night is surely too much to pass, particularly as there’s no EastEnders on Wednesdays.
GameCity director, Iain Simons, said: “Personally I’ve never found video games funny. They’re best played alone, in the dark, as a way to reflect upon oneself. The One Life Left team promise to change my bleak, pessimistic worldview and make me into a better person through laughter.”
The One Laugh Left comedy night takes place on Wednesday, October 27, at The Forum, Nottingham, NG1 4AA, from 7-11pm. Tickets cost £5 in advance, and can be purchased from Just the Tonic.
