The body of missing student Miron Filipovic has been found in a canal in the city centre.
Officers found the 21-year-old’s body at 9.45pm on Wednesday 17 November in the stretch of water, off London Road, between the Premier Inn hotel and BBC building.
In the early hours of this morning (Thursday 18 November), the body has been positively identified, by Miron’s parents, as that of their son.
Miron, a Dutch foreign exchange student at Nottingham Trent University, was last seen at around 11pm on Saturday 13 November, having attended a party at the halls of residence on Castle Gate.
His parents arrived in Nottingham on Wednesday from the Netherlands to assist police with finding Miron. They are said to be ‘distraught’ by his death.
They are being supported by a police Family Liaison Officer and the chaplain from Nottingham Trent University.
Officers were prompted to search the area of the canal on Wednesday evening following a call from a member of the public who had seen a television appeal to find Miron. He recognised Miron’s photo as that of a man he had seen in the early hours of Sunday morning (14 November) walking close to the canal.
Enquiries are now continuing into the circumstances surrounding Miron’s death.
Anyone with any information that may assist the police investigation is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police immediately on 0300 300 9999.
