Varsity series set to get under way

Varsity series set to get under way

Rivalries between the two universities in Nottingham will be resumed this weekend.

In 2010, it was Nottingham Trent who came away with the honours after a gripping series, which finished 8-6 overall.

The 2011 series will begin on Sunday, as the two American Football go head-to-head at the Harvey Hadden Stadium for only the second time.

On February 21, The National Ice Centre will host one of the most popular events, the Ice Hockey, with a noisy sell-out 7,000 capacity crowd anticipated.

Spectators will be able to see both of the universities’ cheer leading teams perform throughout the event.

The first meeting to take place in the busy month of March is the swimming, which will this year take place at the University of Nottingham’s pool on the 2nd.

Three days later, Rugby League will take centre stage at the Highfields Sports Ground, before the University of Nottingham host the Basketball game on 11 March. The Netball fixture will be held on the same day.

A week later, the Hockey match will be played at Beeston Hockey Club.

The series is concluded with the big Football and Rugby Union games at Notts County’s Meadow lane, while the Cricket will be at Highfields. As yet dates for those have not been confirmed.

This year, the men’s football team will be hoping to make up for their heartbreaking penalties defeat of last year.

Parents Association for Seriously Ill Children (PASIC) is the nominated charity this year, and many will be hoping to see the impressive £9,000 raised in 2008 matched on this occasion.

Buckets will be available for anyone to donate, as well as money from ticket sales being given to charity as well.

For just £10 a ticket to all of the events can be purchased, or alternatively tickets can be bought individually for each of the fixtures.

Ice Hockey tickets will cost £4 each, while a ticket to see the Football or Rugby Union will be £3.50.

For all other events, a £2 donation will be requested at the entrance.

To buy tickets, you can either visit the SU website at www.trentstudents.org, or visit any of the SU shops and bars.

More information can be found on the NTU website.
