Trent TV is given the top prize for ‘Best News Programme’ at the National Student Television Association (NaSTA) awards in Loughborough last night.
They beat off stiff competition from 24 other nominees in the category who came from all over the UK including Glasgow, Leeds and London.
Station manager Tom Ross tells Platform: “I am unbelievably proud of my team, it means a hell of a lot to be recognised for our achievements.
“I’m massively proud of all of us.”
James Laidler, a BBC Breakfast producer who judged the category, presented the award and described Trent TV’s news programme as ‘outstanding’ and ‘beat the others by miles’.
Deputy station manager Jade Worsley says: “We worked really hard for it but it was surprising and great at the same time.
“The amazing thing was we didn’t think we would win because there were so much competition this year.
“It was just awesome.”
The team received a trophy and certificate as well as a week’s work experience at the BBC Breakfast studio.
Altogether more than 300 people attended the event at Loughborough University’s Student Union.
