The Stone Roses announce much anticipated comeback

Seminal Manchester band, The Stone Roses, have today announced their hotly anticipated reunion. The band have announced they plan to reform for a series of gigs after splitting 15 years ago.

Ian Brown and co will play 2 gigs at Manchester’s Heaton park on the 29th and 30th of June 2012 and will then embark on a world tour. The announcement came today at a press conference at a London hotel after a week of heavy speculation that this announcement would be made.

The band have repeatedly denied any chance of a possible comeback for the past 5 years but rumours started speculating earlier this year, when members of the band had revealed they had all resolved their issues after the death of bass player Mani’s mother. Rumours were quickly squashed by the Primal Scream bass player but last week after a major record label announced a press conference, the possibility of a reunion of one of the most important bands on the Manchester music scene quickly became apparent.

The Stone Roses formed in 1983 and only ever released 2 albums before their split in 1996, their biggest hits include “She bangs the drums” And “I wanna be adored.” Their first Self-titled album was released in 1989 to huge critical acclaim, then after a huge legal battle with their record label, they released their second album “Second coming” in 1994, however after poor reception and some members quitting, the band split up just over a year later in 1996.

Since their split, Ian Brown has released 6 solo albums and Mani went onto to play bass for Primal Scream. Guitarist John squire then went on to form “The Seahorses” and make a name as an artist, including work that claimed the band would never reform.

It now waits to be seen if they can reignite their former glories and whether or not they will release new material.

Tickets for their Gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park go on sale this Friday at 9am
