2011 was somewhat of a whirlwind in Celebland, it saw celebrities check, into rehab, such as Dougie Poytner after splitting up from The Saturday’s singer, Frankie Sandford, but then came out triumphant after winning I’m a celebrity and is planning to marry his new girlfriend, Sarah Harding also checked into rehab after splitting from her DJ fiancée, Tom Crane with depression and drinking. It was also the year of divorces, babies and marriage, such as, Britney Spears who picked herself back up after her public breakdown and as she turned 30 on 2nd December, her boyfriend proposed to her. Una Healey from the Saturday’s revealed she would be expecting her first child and Marvin Humes proposed to girlfriend Rochelle, also from the Saturday’s. Lilly Allen married her boyfriend Sam Cooper and showed off her baby bump in her wedding dress. Kate moss also got married to Jamie Hince and Britain got patriotic when Kate Middleton married Prince William, regaining the public’s interest in the Royal Family. David and Victoria Beckham welcomed their little girl Harper Seven Beckham into the world in July, whilst unfortunately it was the end for Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore after he was caught cheating on the eve of their anniversary and in December, Katy Perry and Russell Brand have announced they’d also be divorcing! Here, we look at these celebrities who had a particularly good year, and those that didn’t.
2011 was the year for…
Tulisa Contostavlos – After replacing Cheryl Cole on the X factor and receiving some harsh criticism before the show had even aired, Tulisa proved the nation she deserved her place on the panel and that she can actually sing and showed she actually was charismatic, down to earth and the most passionate mentor on the show and guided Little mix to win, being the first band ever to do so!
Adele –after her performance of “Someone like you” at the Brits, it catapulted Adele into the charts in both the UK and the USA! 21 is the biggest selling album of the 21st century selling 3.8 million copies beating Take That’s comeback album, Progress. She enjoyed a 13 week stretch in the charts with her album. Now she’s been nominated for 6 Grammy’s, 2012 looks just as successful as 2011 for Adele.
Beyoncé – She took Glastonbury by storm in July after her 90 minute performance on the Pyramid stage, being only one out of handful of women to do so in 40 years! She released several songs from her new album, 4, and revealed her baby bump at the MTV Music Awards. What with a rapper dad and a talented mum in a whole range of careers – singer, dancer, actress and designer, 2012 brings the arrival of possibly the world’s most talented baby!
2011 was not the year for…
Ryan Giggs – After taking an injunction out to protect his “devoted, family man” image, it was exposed by Twitter and then shortly after by a politician that he had an affair with Big Brother star, Imogen Thomas. Making it worse for himself he tried to sue Twitter and it was later revealed that he had also had an affair with his brother’s wife!
Katie Price – She is never far from the paparazzi’s lens and although she claims to hate them, she is constantly trying to get their attention and into the papers. After she divorced Peter Andre, she married Alex Reid, then after a year ditched him on live TV and shortly after, started going out with Leonardo Penna, they dated for seven months even though he couldn’t speak much English! Will she ever retire and just be at a stay at mum with her children? But with news circulating that she and Peter Andre have now reconciled, it’s highly unlikely.
Cheryl Cole – She was the nations sweetheart after Simon Cowell gave her a place on the X Factors panel, however, when she and Simon Cowell quit the show to go to the USA X Factor, what they expected to propel her career over in the states in fact went the opposite way, causing Cheryl to be ditched and replaced swiftly by Nicole Scherzinger. She faced public backlash and stayed out of the limelight for a few weeks, only to reveal her new blonde bob in June for her 28th birthday, maybe 2012 will see her return back to being the nation’s sweetheart.
