Organisers of Sonisphere Festival 2012 have officially confirmed the cancellation of this year’s event. News of the cancellation first came to light when headliners, Queen, revealed the Knebworth Park festival would no longer be taking place.
Festival organisers have released a full statement confirming the news on the Sonisphere website.
The message reads: “It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.”
It then goes on to say: “Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar.
“Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect.”
Organisers of the festival have said that ticketholders will be able to claim full refunds from ticket agents.
In addition to Queen, the bands Kiss and Faith No More, as well as solo-act Adam Lambert were all scheduled to headline this year’s event. Evanescence, The Darkness, Marilyn Manson, Cypress Hill, Andrew WK and comedian Tim Minchin were all also on the 2012 line-up.
