Review: Wagamama

Wagamama Chicken and Prawn Pad Thai – a delicious noodle based dish

Eating at a chain restaurant normally means you get a good standard of food and average customer service, so I wasn’t expecting to
come out with anything other than an ordinary restaurant experience. However, Wagamama excelled themselves in customer service and I came out a very satisfied customer.

On arrival we were seated quickly with menus and given an explanation of what the dishes were. Our waiter, Stan, was very friendly, giving us advice on our orders and having a little playful banter. We went for the chicken Chu Chee curry and the chicken and prawn Wagamama Pad Thai. For a starter we shared Ebi Katsu- deep fried prawns in breadcrumbs with a chilli sauce upon our waiter’s recommendation. Stan warned us that we might not get our food at the same time as everything is cooked freshly, so once it was ready it was brought straight out. Personally, this was not a problem, fresh food is at the top of my expectations when I eat out.

ChuChee Curry – packed full of vegetables and bursting with flavou

The prawns were delicious with just the right amount of chilli sauce, something I would definitely order again. Ten minutes later, the curry dish arrived. It was delicious; butternut squash, chicken, courgettes, peppers and rice, all piping hot and bursting with flavours. Once I had finished my meal, however, the Pad Thai meal still hadn’t arrived; Stan apologized, reordered the food and told us we could have the meal on the house. When we explained that we were from a magazine and our visit was already complimentary, his face dropped, obviously very embarrassed that our experience hadn’t been perfect and we were probably going to slate him in the review. How wrong he was. He continued to apologise for the duration of our meal, and gave us both a £15 voucher so that we could return and experience Wagamama at its best.

For most people, this would have made them think twice about returning, but I can’t wait to go back, and not just because I have £15 to spend there. The food is on point, tasty and authentic, the service is friendly and helpful, with nothing being too much trouble and the restaurant is clean, tidy and pleasant to be in. Instead of putting me off, this trip has made me love Wagamama even more. Definitely somewhere I’d recommend for Platform readers to visit.
