Nottingham Trent students win chance to train with Jackonsville Jaguars

A prize sought after by many but won by few. Nottingham Trent’s very own American Football team, the Renegades, earned the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to train with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars as they prepared for their clash with the Dallas Cowboys at Wembley.

NFL UK launched a Twitter competition where a UK university would win the opportunity to be coached by some of the best players and coaches in American Football. This university with the most tweets generated with their unique hashtag would be crowned winners.

In a campaign which saw 1,356,835 tweets posted, Nottingham Trent fought off competition from the Hull Sharks and the Cambridge Pythons to be granted permission to head down to Watford where the Jaguars’ UK training camp was based.

A quick glance at the on Twitter at #RenegadesNFLUK shows exactly how much of a fantastic time was to be had for the Renegades – because not only were they subject to first-class coaching, they also were allowed to spectate the training session of the Jaguars, and hopefully pick up some tips along the way.

Upon hearing the news of winning, it’s quite clear that NTU students were ecstatic, as shown by Josh Spragg’s comments on Twitter: “@SpraggBoll We made it! #RenegadesNFLUK #RollPink #WAATWAAT.” NTU Lacrosse were also quick to congratulate the boys on their achievement: “Well done @NTURenegades,  enjoy Friday. On to big things! @nfl_uk #RenegadesNFLuk”

On the flip side, captain of the Hull Sharks team, Ryan Bartram, who finished second to NTU in the competition, conceded defeat in a respectable manner: “@NTURenegades hats off to you fellas. Hope you enjoy your day with the Jags. Just a little bit jealous. #RenegadesNFLuk.”

It turned out to be a hugely successful campaign for both NFL UK and NTU’s Renegades, where the Trent students must have left a great impression on the Jaguars as Denard Robinson celebrated his touchdown at Wembley against the Cowboys with a celebration coined by the university team, as pointed out by Michael Jones on Twitter: “LOVE how Denard Robinson celebrated his touchdown with the Renegade celebration!!”

The celebration from Robinson proved to be the icing on the cake or the Renegades. Not only did they enjoy the company of professional American Football players, but the pros quite clearly enjoyed the company of Trent’s Renegades.
