Everyone’s favourite end-of-summer party is back with its first line up announcement, which includes headliners The Cure and Major Lazer as well as the likes of Animal Collective, Skepta, Eats Everything, Bicep, Bastille, Years & Years and more.

As well as dropping a host of stellar names in the first wave of announcements, Bestival have also confirmed their 2016 theme will be “the future”, with ticketholders once again encouraged to join in Saturday’s fancy dress shenanigans.

Curator and radio DJ Rob Da Bank said: “So, here we go again, but this time we’re going far… far away… into the future. Prepare yourselves for a Bestival unlike any other with futuristic new stages, and as ever it’s a broad church of music from every decade and every genre.

Joining The Cure and Major Lazer at the top of the bill are Thursday headliners Hot Chip, with the big Sunday headliner still to be announced.

Breakthrough London rockers Wolf Alice, techno guru Richie Hawtin, David Rodigan MBE, Aurora, Big Narstie, Caravan Palace, Krept & Konan, Katy B and The Human League also feature on a bill full to the brim with musical treats.

Da Bank added: It’s not all about the headliners, as we know, so I’m super-pleased to have acts as diverse as Hot Chip, Years and Years, Animal Collective and Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley, through to the hottest DJs Kurupt FM and the Black Madonna. This is just the start of the trip – see you in The Future!

Robert Smith and co return to the festival five years after a triumphant headline set in 2011, which was later released as a live album, to close the main stage on the Saturday night, following shoegazers Ride.

Smith said: “We are very very happy to be back at our favourite festival; we can’t wait to play a special set to show the future IS what it used to be…”

Major Lazer, who will round off Friday’s proceedings added: “We started at Bestival five years ago, and it was one of our favourite shows to date.

“Since then we finally impacted in England, and we can’t wait to do our new show and play all the records for the fans at one of the best festivals in the world!!”

Bestival returns to Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight between 8-11th September with tickets are on sale now priced at just £180 for full-time students with a valid NUS card.
