NTU Renegades’ unbeaten record against our University of Nottingham Rivals is over after a crushing 19-7 defeat under the lights at Lady Bay. The result came as a shock in which NTU never really got going.
The two sides have met three times already this season, with the Renegades victorious in each one which included a Nationals semi-final.
It was however a deserved victory for UoN who put the boys in pink on the back foot from the word go and scored an early touchdown to give them a 6-0 advantage.
Trent were given an opportunity to get back into the game almost immediately but their field game was excellently charged down by the wall of green and gold.
It was not long into the second quarter when UoN doubled their lead, when an excellent play found a man in the endzone. It was followed by a converted field goal to give them a 13-0 lead.
This seemed to wake the under-par Renegades side up and they quickly got their first points on the board with an excellent throw from the centre of the field that found a receiver inside the endzone.
The scoring in the second quarter didn’t end there and UoN responded to Trent’s touchdown with one of their own when a nimble UoN wide receiver managed to find a gap in the Renegades’ defence to make the score 19-7, which they took into half time.
Trent had it all to do in the final two quarters, but the Uni of footballers suffered very few scares in the last half of the game and even had a touchdown of their own chalked off after a flag was raised earlier in the move.
Swimming is up next in the Notts Varsity series where Trent will be looking to get over their American Football heartbreak and write an underdog story of their own- UoN are strong favourites to win the 5th installment of the series.
